Vintage Corner: 1930s Ludwig practice pad

One of the oldest pads in my collection, an unusual vintage Ludwig. Thin calf leather has been stretched over a padded wooden disc (stuffed with wool or hair) and affixed to a tilted platform. I haven’t found it in any catalogs but based on the metal badge I’d guess late 1920s or early 1930s. Very rare, I’ve never seen another one. For concert sticks only, I wouldn't use anything bigger than a 5B on this if I were playing it regularly.
(A friend tells me that calf heads can last forever if properly cared for. Here in the PNW with hot, dry summers and rainy winters, I'm not so confident of that.)
