The guys at Ingrained Instruments have been busy dreaming up new stick designs, and I recently received two of them in the mail.
The first model may be of more interest to marching drummers. It's a very special 3S stick that comes in two varieties, Regular and Indoor. Knowing my hands, I ordered a set of the Indoor model and have been pleasantly surprised by the heft and feel.
The stick is designed with a reverse taper at the back, and a very stout semi-taper at the front, making for a forward-weighted stick that packs a punch, even in the Indoor weight. This is a hickory model and if you're not careful it can beat up your hands until you get used to it.
Start slow. And if you like it, consider a custom pair of their 3S style in a more exotic wood. See some examples at their site.
The second model may well become a go-to pair of rudimental sticks for me. A 2B in Grenadillo that is among the fattest of the 2B's, yet very well-balanced and with a satisfying feel. The Grenadillo makes for a slightly livelier feel than hickory, and rolls with these are incredibly nimble and fun.
Both sticks can be ordered through Ingrained's web site.
